Hagg Lake Water Quality Model -- 2000 Dissolved Orthophosphate Animation

If the movie does not play in this window, download it [AVI, 3.4 Mb] and view it with a separate movie player. If you don't have a movie player that allows fine control over frame advancement and reverse, you might consider obtaining one. For the Mac and Windows environments, try the free QuickTime viewer from Apple. For Unix systems, try the free xanim viewer.

Animation of 2000 Modeled Dissolved Orthophosphate

This animation shows modeled dissolved orthophosphate concentrations from the Henry Hagg Lake water quality model for the 2000 model calibration period. A slice down the longitudinal axis of the lake is shown here, where Scoggins Creek enters the lake at the far left and Scoggins Dam is shown on the downstream, right-hand side of the figure. Tanner Creek enters the lake at the location marked by the "T." Similarly, Sain Creek enters the lake at the location marked by the "S." The date and the day of year are shown at the top of the animation. Dissolved orthophosphate in the lake is shown using colors to represent the simulated concentrations, according to the scale at the far left.

The dam is represented by the black structure shown at the right-hand side of the lake. Elevations are marked on the dam in meters. The dam allows water to leave the lake in one of two ways. The location of the bottom of the spillway is noted by a horizontal black line near the top of the dam. The location of the lake's outlet structure is illustrated by the opening shown in the dam. In reality, the outlet structure is not built into the dam as shown; rather, the water is drawn into an outlet structure just upstream of the dam. Flow over the spillway or through the outlet structure is shown when it occurs; the height of the water in each outlet is normalized to the largest flows that occurred during the year.

On the far right, measured and simulated dissolved orthophosphate concentrations are compared in a vertical profile taken at the deepest point in the lake just upstream of the dam. Measured data, when available, are plotted as green squares. Simulated data are plotted as smaller black squares. When the measured and simulated data match up in time, the squares are filled (measured = green, simulated = black).
